The Institute’s ever-popular virtual coffee morning, The Perfect Blend, is back in June for a session discussing the challenges facing new and returning councillors in 2023.
What can local authorities do to support councillors when they need to engage or consult on services, change proposals, or budgets? What challenges might there be when newly elected members become part of scrutiny committees or decision making meetings, where additional roles and duties like the Public Sector Equality Duty need to be observed?
With shrinking budgets, withdrawal of services, and the pressing need for climate-friendly behaviour change, elected members can find themselves caught between the desire of their constituents for more and better, whilst listening to their officers talk about making savings and trying to avoid things getting worse.
We'll be joined by tCI's Senior Associate, Anna Collins, to hear your thoughts and experiences, including sharing the actions, techniques and methods you typically deploy.
Pick up a brew, grab a biscuit, and join the conversation.
